Why Khameleon?

Khameleon’s commitment to diversity throughout all aspects of the company is unique and urgently needed. Theatre has a legacy of community - it has long been used to express the ideas and realities of a diverse range of communities. Khameleon’s honouring of this legacy, their focus on creative collaboration and commitment to platforming young artists from a multiple of disciplines and backgrounds, is really refreshing. I’m humbled and super excited to be working with them.

Why Medea?

Adapting a classic text for our time is really exciting, especially since so much of Medea’s story speaks to the experiences of marginalised communities today. Musically, layering sounds of the present with the past, presents all kinds of creative possibilities. Working on this adaptation has made me really think about what has and what hasn’t changed about society, and how far are we willing to go in the face of injustice? The Ancient World was diverse, but we don’t get to learn about this in school. I hope that our production of Medea will spark wider conversations around western education that will challenge the systemic ‘normalities’ of our contemporary society.
