Why Khameleon?
As a mixed-race Iranian Brit, I am always interested in the ways that race and culture intersect and interact with other aspects of identity. I am really excited to be working with Khameleon to bring the Classics podcast to life. It has taught me so much about the complex history of diversity and inclusion within Classics as an academic discipline, and so much more about the ways we have historically understood and misunderstood Greco-Roman antiquity. I hope Khameleon reaches as many people as possible who are just starting to get interested in Classics.
Why Medea?
Medea is simply fascinating - until my association with Khameleon, I knew almost nothing about it, but I continue to be astonished at how many of its themes are so relevant to the world we live in today. Working on the Medea episodes of the podcast has made me realise that this has always been true - every generation since Euripides has found a way to relate this amazing story to its own political situation. That is why it’s so powerful - it’s endured for centuries, but it is endlessly interpretable. That, to me, is what makes great art.
